About Hair

I just wanted to put a little space here to talk about hair! There are so many different ways to go when deciding which hairstyle looks best on you.

Color

First, let’s talk about color. I think this is probably the most important choice for your hair, and there are definitely colors that will look better in each seasonal palette. Obviously, your natural color will be a perfect option for you, but if you do decide to color your hair, I recommend going just a shade or two off from your natural color (unless you’re a dramatic or gamine essence and like the bolder, more colorful hues — in which case, I still recommend staying within the colors of your seasonal palette).

Springs and Autumns will want to stick with warm tones of hair color. Summers and Winters should go with ashy, cool tones.

Because of the higher contrast in their features, bright palettes may want to choose a color away from their skin tone. Soft palettes could choose a hue closer to their skin tone.

Light palettes will look amazing with highlights, while dark palettes can look great in lowlights.

With all of that said, here is a look at some of the colors in each season:

Style

There are a few different ways in which you may choose to style your hair. You could look at hairstyles suited for your Kibbe body type (found in his book, David Kibbe’s Power of Style). Kitchener essences also have their own unique looks; I’ve provided some examples of those hairstyles here. Or you could choose a style based on your face shape.

Here’s a look at the different face shapes and styles:

  • Oval
  • Oblong/Rectangle
  • Square
  • Triangle
  • Diamond
  • Round
  • Heart/Inverted Triangle

Oval

  • Short pixie
  • Layered bob
  • Lob (long bob)
  • Long and layered
  • Italian bob
  • Beach waves

Keep the face free from heavy styles. You don’t need a lot of volume, but layers should be present.

Oblong/Rectangle

  • Layers
  • Side-swept bangs
  • Soft curls or waves
  • Soft bob with bangs

Adding curls will soften your face, while side-parts create visual width.

Square

  • Layered bob
  • Lob (long bob)
  • Side-swept bangs
  • Wispy bangs
  • French or Italian bob
  • Feathered shoulder-length
  • Severe side part
  • Butterfly cut
  • Beach waves
  • Curtain bangs
  • Face-framing

Don’t be afraid to pull focus to your hair, but take care to avoid blunt cuts.

Triangle

  • Heavy bangs
  • Long and straight
  • Cuts above the jawline

While the triangle shape is fairly uncommon, bangs are great for rounding out your features!

Diamond

  • Lobs and bobs
  • Side-swept bangs
  • Curled pixie
  • Side part
  • Long, curly hair
  • Beach waves
  • Face-framing
  • Wispy bangs

It’s all about balancing and enhancing those beautiful cheekbones!

Round

  • Long and sleek
  • Pixies with top volume
  • High Ponies
  • Top Knots
  • Curtain bangs
  • Face-framing

Avoid mid-length cuts. The idea is to elongate the face.

Heart/Inverted Triangle

  • Severe side part
  • Classic bob
  • High half-up-do’s
  • Curtain bangs
  • Italian bob
  • Chin-length to shoulder-length

If you have a widow’s peak, avoid a middle part.
